How We Worship
Colossians 3:16 August 1-2, 2026
1. Spontaneous Worship
2 Samuel 6:12-15: …So David went and brought the ark of God up from the house of Obed-Edom to the city of David with joy.… And David was dancing before the Lord with all his strength, and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with joyful shouting and the sound of the trumpet.
John 12:1-3: Therefore, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead… Mary then took a pound of very expensive perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume
DQ 1: How are you doing with spontaneous praise such as David’s,
and spontaneous intimate worship, such as that of Mary of
Bethany?

2. Obedient Worship
Psalm 95:1-2: Come, let’s sing for joy to the Lord, Let’s shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let’s come before His presence with a song of thanksgiving, Let’s shout joyfully to Him in songs with instruments
Psalm 33:1 Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.”
Colossians 3:12-17: So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so must you do also. In addition to all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ, to which you were indeed called in one body, rule in your hearts; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
DQ 2: Are you growing as a person who praises and worships God
as an act of obedience?

3. Wholehearted Worship
Romans 12:1-2: Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect
DQ 3: Are you laying your life down to the Lord daily as an act of
worship?

4. Whole Life Worship
Amos 5: 21-24: “I hate, I reject your festivals, nor do I delight in your festive assemblies. Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them; And I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fattened oxen. Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps. But let justice roll out like waters, And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
DQ 4: Is your church-worship and “out-there” worship in balance?
DQ 5: What more can you do to see rivers of justice and
righteousness flows from your life?

5. Supernatural Worship
John 4: 23-26: “But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
DQ 6: How can you grow in Christ to be a supernatural worshiper?
