Last Teaching:  The Prophet Micah – Walk Humbly

1)  O Bethlehem

Micah 5:2:  “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

1 Samuel 17:12-15:  Now David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse, who was from Bethlehem in Judah.  Jesse had eight sons….  David was the youngest.  The three oldest followed Saul, but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.

John 6:48-51:  “I am the bread of life.  Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died.  But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.  I am the living bread that came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.  This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

2)  Swords Into Plowshares

Micah 4:1-4:  In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and peoples will stream to it….  They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.  Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.  Every man will sit under his own vine and under his own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken.

3)  What is Good?

Micah 6:8:  He has showed you, O man, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

This Week’s Teaching:

1)  Coming Soon

Revelation 22:7:  “Behold, I am coming soon!  Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book.”

DQ 1) Why is an expectation of Christ returning soon important to daily Christian life? _________________________________________________________

2)  Faithful Stewards

1 Corinthians 4:1-2:  So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.  Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (NASB):  Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.  In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.

DQ 2) What is stewardship?

DQ 3) Identify ways in which God has entrusted you with stewardship responsibilities.

3)  Wise Investments

Matthew 25:14-30:  “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.  To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability.  Then he went on his journey.  The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more.  So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.  But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.  After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.  The man who had received the five talents brought the other five.  ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents.  See, I have gained five more.’  His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!  You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.  Come and share your master’s happiness!’…  His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant!  So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?  Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.  Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.  For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance.  Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.  And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”

DQ 4) Why is wise use of our talents and resources vital during our lifetimes?

DQ 5) Why is wise use of our talents and resources eternally important?
