Time Anew

December 28 & 29, 2024

Primary Text:  Joel 2:25-27

This Week’s Teaching:

1)  Time Renewed

Joel 2:25-27:  I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm—my great army that I sent among you.  You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.  Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the Lord your God, and that there is no other; never again will my people be shamed.

Joel 2:25 KJV:  And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.

DQ 1) Did you ever squander years of your life in sin and bring judgment upon yourself?
DQ 2) Do you recognize God desires to restore you and renew your years?

2)  A Time for Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1–8:  There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

DQ 3) What season of life are you in now?  Has it changed significantly in the last five years?  How so?

3)  Timeless

Ecclesiastes 3:11–15:  He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.  I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.  That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God.  I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it.  God does it so that men will revere him.  Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.

Psalm 139:13–14, 16:  For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well…  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

DQ 4) How is God the determinant of time in our lives?
DQ 5) Do you live with an eternal mindset or a worldly, temporal perspective?
