A World So Loved

December 17 & 18, 2022

Primary Text:  John 3:16-21

Previous Teaching:  I AM the Light

1)  The Light of Life

John 8:12:  When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

DQ 1) What are the various ways in which Jesus is the “Light of the world”?

DQ 2) What does it mean to “walk in darkness”?

2)  Another Light

Matthew 5:14-16:  You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

DQ 3) How do we humans become light to the world?

This Week’s Teaching

1)  Light has Come

John 3:19-21:  This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.

DQ 1) Why do men “love darkness” and “hate the light”?

2)  A World So Loved

John 3:16:  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

DQ 2) What does it mean that God “so loved the world”?

3)  Begotten Not Made

John 3:16 (NASB):  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

DQ 3) What does it mean that God gave His only begotten Son? DQ 4) Did Jesus’ incarnation make Him inferior to the Father or the Holy Spirit?

DQ 5) What is the Nicene Creed?

4)  Condemned No More

John 3:17-18:  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

DQ 6) Why do unbelievers stand condemned?

DQ 7) Have you believed in (placed your faith in) the Lord Jesus Christ?
