1)  Intended for Marriage

1 Corinthians 7:1-5:  It is good for a man not to marry.  But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.  The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.  The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband.  In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 

DQ 1)  How are marital sexual relations intended by God to be a blessing to couples?

2)  Sacred & Honored

Hebrews 13:4:  Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

3)  Against Yourself

1 Corinthians 6:18-20:  Flee from sexual immorality.  All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.

This Week’s Teaching: 

1)  Moral Sexual Laws

Leviticus 18:5-6:  I am the LORD.  No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations.

Leviticus 18:18:  Do not take your wife's sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.

Leviticus 18:20:  Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor's wife and defile yourself with her.

Leviticus 18:21:  Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God.  I am the LORD. 

Leviticus 18:22:  Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

Leviticus 18:23:  Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it.  A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.

Deuteronomy 22:5:  A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this. 

Leviticus 18:24-26:  Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.   Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.  But you must keep my decrees and my laws. 

DQ 1)  What are some of the known negative effects of inbreeding among humans?  Why is incest particularly damaging not only genetically but also emotionally and spiritually? 

DQ 2)  Why is adultery explicitly condemned within the ten commandments? 

DQ 3)  Why is child sacrifice listed among sexual sins in Leviticus? 

DQ 4)  How does homosexuality contradict the created order of human society?

2)  Do Not be Deceived

1 Corinthians 6:9-11:  Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  And that is what some of you were.  But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NASB):  Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.  Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 

DQ 6)  How is sexual sin very deceptive?
