This Week’s Teaching:
1) Passing Away
1 Corinthians 7:29-31: What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.
DQ 1) How should recognition of the passing of the “world” affect how Christians live?

2) Things Above
Colossians 3:1-3: Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
DQ 2) What does it mean to set your mind on things above?

3) Our Goal
2 Corinthians 5:7-10: We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
DQ 3) What pleases God? Do you please Him?

4) What is Man?
Psalm 8:3-5: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
DQ 4) Why does God love humankind? What reveals God’s love for you?

5) Eternal Hearts
Ecclesiastes 3:9-11, 14: What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end…. God does it so that men will revere him.
DQ 5) Describe aspects of human behavior that reflect our sense of eternity?
