What If?
Primary Text: Hebrews 12:5-11
This Week’s Teaching:
1) What if it’s Judgment?
John 16:8-11: When he [the Counselor] comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
Romans 8:1-2: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
- DQ 1) What does the Scripture mean when it says the Holy Spirit “will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment”?
- DQ 2) How has Christ removed condemnation for those who are in Him?

2) But What About?
1 Corinthians 11:29-32: For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
1 John 5:16-17: If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
- DQ 3) What differences exist between God’s judgment of the unsaved versus His judgment of the saved?
- DQ 4) What is the sin that leads to death?

3) What if it’s Love?
Hebrews 12:5-11: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?... Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
DQ 5) What is God desiring to remove from your life at this time so that you might be more holy and thus more like Him?
