Covenant Eyes
August 22 & 23, 2026Primary Text: Job 31:1
This Week’s Teaching:
1) Eyes of Wisdom
Psalm 119:33-34, 37: Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart…. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word
Job 31:1, 4, 9-11: I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl…. Does he not see my ways and count my every step?... If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor’s door, then may my wife grind another man’s grain, and may other men sleep with her. For that would have been shameful, a sin to be judged.

2) The Lust Problem
1 John 2:15–17, NASB: Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
James 1:13-15: When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
DQ 2) What is the root cause of lust of any type?

3) Lustful Eyes
Matthew 5:27-29: You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
DQ 3) Why is adultery such a harmful sin?

4) Not Even A Hint
Ephesians 5:3-5: But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
DQ 4) What does it mean to have a pure heart and mind?

5) Flee!
1 Corinthians 6:18-20: Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
DQ 5) What does it mean to grieve the Holy Spirit?
