What We Believe

 Primary Text:  Matthew 28:18-20                        January 8 & 9, 2022

 1)  The Mission & Vision

 Matthew 28:18-20:  Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Vision:  Celebration Church seeks to worship Jesus in Spirit and Truth without fear, while also being a place to heal--emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

 3)  Biblical Truth

 We believe in the one and only true God (John 17:3).  He created all things (Revelation 4:11) and upholds all things by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3).

  1. We believe God is one in essence.  We believe He expresses His eternal nature in and through three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20).

  1. We believe in the total deity of the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:9).  We believe Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35), born of the virgin Mary (Luke 1:27), lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), was crucified (Acts 2:36), buried, and resurrected (1 Corinthians 15:4).  By His blood Jesus made provision to atone for the sin of all humanity; He expiates, cleanses, and purifies all who personally believe in Him (Hebrews 9:14, 22, 28).

  1. We believe Jesus is the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22, 5:23; Colossians 1:18), and He intercedes for believers (Romans 8:34).  One day He will return to this Earth personally, bodily, and visibly (I Thessalonians 4:13-18).

  1. We believe God, by His choice and out of love, sent His Holy Spirit with a broad, two-fold purpose:  (1) to convince those who are non-believers of their need for God (John 16:8-11), and (2) to indwell, empower, and secure believers (John 14:16-17).  We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all Biblical gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12-14).

  1. We believe human beings are born totally depraved and are powerless to save themselves, but their only hope is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, who died to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of humankind (Romans 7:24-25).

  1. We believe the Bible is God's perfect revelation to humankind.   The Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments were supernaturally inspired and without error in the original manuscripts.  The Bible contains eternal answers to humankind's problems and is the authoritative source of Christian doctrine, precepts, and teaching (2 Timothy 3:16).

  1. We believe God desires that none should perish apart from Him but rather that everyone should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).  Whosoever repents and believes through faith in Jesus Christ is justified, regenerated, and saved from the dominion of sin.  He or she is born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby becomes eternally secure as a child of God.  We believe forgiveness of sin is based on grace alone, in Christ alone, and through faith alone.  Salvation is not based on good works or human efforts (Ephesians 2:8-9).

  1. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost.  The saved are raised to eternal, conscious bliss in heaven (Matthew 25:34; John 14:2-3; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Revelation 2:7).  The lost are raised to eternal torment in hell in conscious separation from God (Matthew 8:12, 10:28, 13:49-50; Mark 9:47-48; Luke 12:5; Revelation 21:8).

10) We believe Christian water baptism is a public declaration of, and

       identification with, Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection

      (Matthew 3:13-17; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-6).  The Lord’s Supper

      is the commemoration by believers of Christ’s death and should be

      preceded by a careful self-examination (Luke 22:7-20;

      I Corinthians 11:23-29).

11)  We believe the Church is the Body of Christ (Ephesians 5:23;

        Colossians 1:18) and comprised of all those who, through belief

        in Christ, have been spiritually regenerated by the indwelling

        Holy Spirit.

12) We believe the goal of every Christian should be to grow in

       spiritual maturity.  Furthermore, we believe that an integral

       component of spiritual maturity is discovering, developing, and

       employing one's unique spiritual gifts (Romans 8:6; I Corinthians

       14:1; Ephesians 4:13-16; Hebrews 6:1-2).

DQ 3) Summarize Biblically-based Christian theology in one or two paragraphs.
