 This Week’s Teachings

1)  Great Servants

Mark 10:42-45:  Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.  Not so with you.  Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.  For even the

Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

DQ 1) Describe the various ways in which Jesus modeled servanthood.

 2)  Do Likewise

John 13:13-17:  "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am.  Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.  Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

DQ 2) Why was “foot washing” by Jesus an important model of service

to the disciples?  What does the “foot washing” example indicate

           for modern believers?

 3)  As Yourself

Galatians 5:13-14:  You, my brothers, were called to be free.  But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.  The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

DQ 3) To what extent is serving other people an integral part of your

life?  Describe the various ways you serve others (include every

            minor act of service).

 4)  Servant of All

Mark 9:35:  Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."

Matthew 23:11-12:  The greatest among you will be your servant.  For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

DQ 4) Who do you know that demonstrates great service of others?

Describe what you have seen in their lives?
