This Week’s Teaching
1) Convoluted Worship
Romans 1:21-25: For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore, God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.
DQ 1) Define “spiritual life” apart from the one true God.

2) The Table of Demons
1 Corinthians 10:14, 19-22: Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry…. Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.
DQ 2) Why is worship of anything other than the true God worship
of the demonic?

3) Slaves to Sin
John 8:33-35: They [the Jews who had believed] answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?" Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.”
DQ 3) What is bondage? In what different ways can a person be
enslaved?

4) Freedom in Christ
John 8:31-32, 36: To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."… So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
DQ 4) If we are free in Christ, what are we freed from?
DQ 5) What is real freedom in Christ?
