Abundant Financial Life

 Primary Text: 1 Timothy 6:6-10                  October 16 & 17, 2021

 Previous Teaching:  Abundant Work Life

 1)  The Curse

Genesis 3:17:  To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life."

DQ 1) Why did God create work for humans?

DQ 2) How do we see the effects of “the curse” in all types of

           work today?

 2)  Created for Good Works

Ephesians 2:10:  For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

DQ 3) How does God redeem the curse in the lives of Christians?

 3)  Sincerity

Colossians 3:23-24:  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

DQ 4) What does it mean to work “with all your heart”?

DQ 5) How does your work glorify God?

This Week’s Teaching

 1)  Consequences

2 Thessalonians 3:10:  For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

DQ 1) Why is laziness (slothfulness) a temptation to human

            beings?

 2)  Provision

1 Timothy 5:8:  If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

DQ 2) Identify many different ways in which God calls us to be

responsible even though He promises to provide for us (see

           Matthew 6:28-34).

 3)  Stewards

1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (NASB):  Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.  In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.

DQ 3) What is stewardship?  What are different areas in life where

           God entrusts stewardship to us?

 4)  Great Gain

1 Timothy 6:6-10:  But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.  But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.  People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.  Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

DQ 4) Define financial contentment.

DQ 5) Are you financially content?  Why or Why not?

 5)  Cheerful

2 Corinthians 9:6-8:  Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.  Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Proverbs 11:25:  A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

DQ 6) Why is generosity essential to financial peace of mind?

DQ 7) What does your level of generosity indicate about your

           faith?
